Sophie often does things that make me laugh my head off or totally amaze me and make me wonder if cats really are as daft as they pretend to be. Personally, I think they're just biding their time before trying for World domination!!
I will eventually forget these funny moments so I'm going to record them here. Bengals are known for being ultra smart, so really I shouldn't be at all surprised when she does these strange things.......
Sophie quickly picks up words and obeys them, such as 'sit' or 'get down', sometimes with an argument but mostly she just does it. She also knows dinner, breakfast and brush and comes running for all three
and bedtime which she doesn't like at all. When Sophie has had her breakfast she gets as far as the kitchen door and makes a strange little noise (every single time she has breakfast), it's just a quick little chirrup and makes me laugh as it sounds like she's saying her version of 'cheers' - thanking me for her breakfast. How polite is that!!??
Bengals have a strange range of vocal sounds unlike other cats and she has taken to trying to imitate the sound of me saying 'good girl' which I do in a sort of up and down, singy song voice. She normally does that when I'm dragging her off somewhere she shouldn't be! She makes the same sound over and over as if to say 'I'm a good girl, a good girl', I usually say 'no you're not, youre a naughty girl'!! It is an extremely weird thing to hear though as it's totally at the same pitch and length of sound that I make although she obviously can't get the words right - now that would be freaky!!
She once knocked down a pile of papers in the spare room and it was followed by a noise that sounded like 'oh, oh' which made me roar with laughter.
Like all cats Sophie wakes up as I want to go to bed. My hallway has great acoustics and Sophie knows it. She often sits out there when I've gone to bed and makes a strange sound 'awoah, awoah' which sounds like 'ello, ello' - well with a lisp. The first time I heard it I wondered who was in the house then I realised it was her - it's like she's saying 'hello, anyone here want to play?' - needless to say there isn't - at midnight!!
She has also shown that she can tease/joke. I know that sounds weird but she does! Once she was lying next to me and I was playing with her and teasing her. She opened her mouth and looked up at me and was moving very slowly forward as if to say 'I'm going to bite your arm'.........she had such a cheeky look on her face I knew she wasn't really and she didn't, she was just teasing.
She gets on to my bed early in the morning and if she's being a pest trying to wake me up I say 'Good girl, bedtime, lie down' and she immediately walks down the bed and lies on my legs. Even though she's done this for years I still find it amazing. One day she got on the bed and stood right by my face staring at me so I stroked her and said 'good girl lie down'. So she lay just her head down on the bed and carried on staring at me just like a toddler would do with her bottom up in the air. I said 'very funny, now lie down with your whole body', conceding defeat she went off and lay down but by now the whole bed was shaking as I was laughing so much. Bengals....you gotta love 'em!
I've had my hallway tiled with stone tiles, Sophie soon discovered they're slippery if you're running!
She often careers out of the lounge and then slides for a couple of feet across the tiles. She now careers across the lounge then stops dead at the edge of the carpet and tip toes across the tiles. It's hilarious to watch!
Sophie knows just how to get some attention. If the yelling doesn't work (which it doesn't usually), she sits on the floor by my legs and pats my leg until I speak to her. Apparently cats pat other cats in an invitation to play, so I'm obviously a cat to her!
Sophie likes a bit of rough and tumble and likes to stand on the bed then I have to leap out from behind the door a few times to 'scare' her. She then runs all over the bed with her tail fluffed out and the hair on her back on end like a 'punk' cat. At first I really thought I had scared her but she yells for me to do it again and waits on the bed (no matter how long it takes) until I do, so obviously the hair on end 'weirdness' was just excitement, not fear.

Sophie was fascinated by the recent snow (Jan 2009) and spent all day trying to catch the snowflakes (from inside the flat of course!) - silly billy!

Dec 2009
Sophie has taken to regularly doing 'the trick' and I have no idea why. Prior to this she had done it once only but now she peforms the trick several times a day - kinda weird really!
'The trick' consists of Sophie climbing on top of her scratching post:

Then she scratches upside down (I said it was weird!)

then she stands there waiting for a round of applause (!)

She then uses the position to climb onto the furniture!

There are definitely easier ways to get on to the furniture so I have absolutely no idea what this is all about, unless of course she's just trying to amuse me
. I always laugh and give her a round of applause so that might explain it!
During the recent cold weather I wanted to keep the lounge door closed but cats hate closed doors and Sophie kept opening it . She didn't want to go out she just kept opening the door!
She was heading towards the door for the hundredth time and I yelled at her saying 'don't you open that door!' As anyone with a Bengal knows they're very vocal and make weird noises. She made a noise like 'Iwoah' and it sounded exactly like 'I won't' which made me laugh my head off. If she did say that then she also knows how to lie as a moment later the door was open again!!
January 2010. Sophie's latest trick is to give me a 'kissy'. This means she gives me a little teeny lick. This might not sound like much but Sophie is still shy and nervous around strangers and not the sort of cat that you pick up (although she spends hours lying on me - when she wants to!). So when I lean forward and say kissy she licks my cheek and it's really cute, initially she used to lick my arm to get me out of bed. She has also taken to washing me when she washes herself which is also a sort of sign of acceptance from a cat.
